About the project

The EMPOWER project addresses the persistent gender gap in ICT by targeting root causes such as stereotypes, lack of role models, and gender-insensitive teaching practices. Despite growing female participation in ICT, women remain underrepresented. EMPOWER introduces two core interventions: gender diversity training for teachers and role model presentations by female ICT professionals. These aim to foster inclusive classroom environments and inspire girls to pursue tech careers. By integrating policy and practice, piloting inclusive strategies, and involving national authorities, the project supports EU priorities on gender equality, digital education, and the development of sustainable, gender-responsive educational frameworks across partner countries.

Expected project results

EMPOWER will deliver a comprehensive set of results aimed at fostering gender equality in ICT education. By analysing existing disparities, developing inclusive teaching strategies, and training educators, the project lays the groundwork for systemic change. Pilot interventions in schools, combined with role model engagements, help inspire and support girls to pursue ICT pathways. These efforts lead to more inclusive classroom practices and strengthen students’ aspirations. The project culminates in policy recommendations and stakeholder engagement activities that seek to embed gender-sensitive approaches across educational systems, contributing to long-term structural transformation.
