EMPOWER is a transnational project funded under the Erasmus+ programme, aiming to tackle gender inequality in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education across Europe. Despite increasing demand for digital skills, women remain significantly underrepresented in ICT studies and careers. EMPOWER addresses this imbalance by fostering gender-inclusive teaching practices and promoting diverse role models in the digital sector.
Across the EU, only around 20% of ICT specialists are women—a gap shaped by stereotypes, lack of female representation, and biased teaching environments. Girls often face discouragement from pursuing ICT from an early age, even when they demonstrate equal aptitude. EMPOWER recognises that effective change must begin in the classroom, with educators who are aware of their influence and equipped to foster inclusive, empowering learning spaces.

Gender Diversity Training for Teachers (PI1): Educators receive targeted professional development to identify and counteract gender biases in their teaching practices and materials.
Role Model Presentations and Activities (PI2): Female professionals from the ICT sector visit classrooms to share their experiences, providing girls with relatable, inspiring examples of success.
EMPOWER is not just a project—it’s a movement to reshape how girls perceive their place in the digital world. By transforming teaching practices and making women in ICT visible and accessible, EMPOWER contributes to a more inclusive digital future. The project’s outcomes will support national education authorities in implementing sustainable, gender-sensitive strategies that can be adopted across Europe.
